A new poll in Briefings for Britain confirms the ambiguity in public attitudes
On face value there is majority support for rejoining (50 per cent). And this rises further if rejoining means frictionless trade and the ability for Brits to live, work, study, and retire anywhere in the EU (62 per cent)....The trouble for the rejoiners is that public support shifts dramatically once they learn about Brussels’ non-negotiables. If rejoining means paying more than ever into the EU budget, just 30 per cent would support the move, while 37 per cent oppose. Forcing them to confront joining the Eurozone reduces support to just one-quarter (26 per cent) and a majority of voters oppose (50 per cent).
I can't find details of this particular poll, but an earlier one had only 1235 online participants which is hardly gripping, subsequently matched to quotas in the general public. The company claim that this poll had a margin of error of only 2.8% however ( after a rather abstract calculation)
The whole thing depends on a view of the EC having non-negotiables, of course, and that they will include the most unpopular options. We do need clarification here
