Uncertainty and event

Another small example of a constant, and not at all innocent, tendency in teh Graun and others to conflate the effects of uncertainty over Brexit with Brexit itself. The usual scary headline first:

UK construction output 'drops like a stone' as Brexit bites - business live

The pound has also dropped against the euro, to €1.116, close to its lowest level since January.

Lower down, several items are just elided:

Brexit uncertainty is having an increasingly painful impact on UK construction....“In an industry that still bears the scars of the crash a decade ago...LT investment being postponed due to Brexit...New orders also fell sharply as the Brexit limbo puts companies off any imminent plans to make long term investments...Pain of Brexit indecision...Expert: Brexit indecision is hurting UK construction...building firms are trapped in “quicksand” by political uncertainty...building companies are suffering from the lack of clarity...Builders across the country blamed “risk aversion among clients in response to heightened political and economic uncertainty.”...people are simply unwilling to take risks while they don’t know how the Brexit crisis will be resolved.
So once they do know how it will be resolved, confidence and output will increase?

There has also been a recent story about a world-wide shortage of certain medicines due to what a commentator on Radio 4 described as a 'perfect storm' mostly down to difficulties in regulating production in times of increased demand. He was definite that this was nothing to do with Brexit, since it affected France and Germany too, but it hasn't stopped Project Fearers banging on about shortages. A recent reply from my own Remaining/Revoking MP stressed fear about shortages in medicine and food --as if we were swimming in both at the moment!

Meanwhile, the Graun still manages to focus on the big issue of the day:
